What is the salary for a dental technician in Russia in 2022?

Before choosing this or that profession, spending at least seven years with it, and then most of your life, or retraining for something else, you need to find out as much as possible about it. Therefore, in this article we will talk about such a profession as a dental technician. We will consider in detail the features of the specialty, pitfalls, positive and negative aspects, requirements for the applicant, as well as the average salary in the regions of Russia.

The essence of the profession

Unlike a dentist, a dental technician does not directly treat teeth or gums. This specialist must make dentures, orthodontic braces and other similar structures. These are quite complex jobs that require a high level of theoretical knowledge and relevant practical skills. They are performed in a closed box, where high hygiene and sanitary safety requirements are observed. For this, sophisticated modern tools are used, since such work requires literally jeweler's precision. Make a slight mistake, deviate a couple of millimeters from the specified parameters, and the entire prosthesis will be hopelessly damaged. The patient will develop an abnormal bite, and this is fraught with the development of diseases of the respiratory system.

If we talk about specifics, then the tasks of a dental technician are:

  1. selection of material for the manufacture of a prosthesis - optimal for a particular case,
  2. development of a model of a future prosthesis using computer technology,
  3. creation of the prosthesis itself, taking into account all the structural features of the jaws,
  4. restoration of dental prostheses and other similar structures.

In short, the importance and complexity of such work can hardly be overestimated. And a dental technician is required to have a high level of theoretical training, good practical skills and developed fine motor skills, responsibility, pedantry, and attention to detail. In addition, a dental technician is a profession that requires a certain creativity, since sometimes it is necessary to solve non-standard problems. And such a specialist must have a specialized medical education - this is a mandatory requirement.

Work and responsibilities of a dental technician

A dental technician is a specialist who produces dental and jaw prostheses and orthodontic braces. The specialist does not work directly with patients, but works in a separate and closed laboratory, which is equipped with a variety of devices for manufacturing products.

The work of a dental technician requires accuracy, perseverance, thoroughness, precision and patience. At its core, this is a kind of jewelry work that requires an individual approach to each order. Naturally, students and graduates of medical academies ask the question: “How much does a dental technician earn?” We will try to find an answer to this question in this article.

The duties of a dentist include not only the manufacture of dental products, but also to ensure that the orthodontic specialist, who takes measurements from the patient’s jaw for a future crown or prosthesis, does everything correctly and accurately.

Next, the work process occurs: according to the specified parameters and a preliminary impression, a finished crown, prosthesis or implant is made. In addition to manufacturing dental products, the technician is engaged in:

  • choosing high-quality material for the future prosthesis;
  • the process of modeling the product, first working with dental wax and only then moving on to metal structures;
  • identical creation of the patient's tooth;
  • creation of jaw and facial devices;
  • further repair of dental products.

The peculiarity of the profession of a dental technician is that a specialist must have not only the qualities of perseverance and precision, but also his physical characteristics must be at a certain level. The master must have in his own arsenal:

  • excellent and developed motor skills of fingers and hands;
  • excellent vision without various deviations;
  • developed eye;
  • the ability to clearly distinguish a palette of colors and shades;
  • the ability to “look” in different directions, i.e. developed system of internal coordination of vision and motor skills;
  • ability for spatial thinking and general understanding of “size-space”.

In the process of work, a specialist uses knowledge about the physical and chemical properties of materials that are involved in the manufacturing process of the product. Therefore, we can say that a dental technician is a physicist, chemist, welder who is engaged in casting special metals, and also has graphic knowledge of 3D technologies.

But being a dental technician is not for everyone. If a specialist has complete or partial hearing loss, infectious diseases (HIV or AIDS), speech problems, diseases of the hands, skin diseases, hand tremors, unstable nervous system or vision problems, then work in this specialty is completely contraindicated. Also contraindications to work are epilepsy and problems with brain development.

What does a dental technician's salary depend on?

As with any other medical specialties, qualification categories are established for dental technicians. The salary level is primarily influenced by these categories, as well as work experience. When applying for a job in a private clinic, a specialist can “bargain” for himself better payment conditions if he has good recommendations from previous places of work.

Other professions: How much does a bus driver earn?

Theoretically, when hired, all dental technicians are required to provide a diploma of specialized education, which will not in any way affect their future career. However, in practice, when finding employment in a private clinic, it often turns out to be very important which educational institution issued this diploma. In a public clinic, of course, this point is not given such importance.

As for the salary system, in government agencies it consists of a salary clearly established by the salary schedule and additional allowances - for example, for qualification category, for length of service, for the complexity and intensity of work. There are also compensatory payments for overtime work. Bonuses may be paid at the end of the quarter or year.

In private clinics, the salary also consists of two parts. One is a fixed salary, and the second is additional funds that the dental technician receives depending on the number of orders he has completed. The cost of orders is taken into account. And here everything depends on the type of prosthetics (which can be removable, fixed or partially removable), since it is this that affects the complexity of the work, their cost, that is, in the end, the amount that the clinic receives.

Where and how much to study to become a dental technician

Good news for those who dream of working in the field of dentistry, but are not ready for huge competitions for admission, as well as 5-6 years at a medical school, followed by residency and choice of specialty. To become a dental technician, you do not need a higher education - a secondary specialized education will be enough.

You can start getting a specialty quite early - after finishing 9th grade. In this case, the training will take four years. After 11th grade - one year less.

To enter a college or technical school after 9th grade, you will need a certificate of secondary education. As a rule, there is no need to take additional exams, but during school years, future applicants are recommended to “lean into” mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and the Russian language in order to successfully pass the Unified State Exam in these subjects.

However, if you already have a higher medical education, but you are determined to change your specialization and master a new profession, then everything will be even faster here. For those who have a diploma, it is enough to take a professional retraining course.

Salary level in Moscow

Much here is determined by the type of medical institution in which the dental technician works. But even in public clinics in Moscow, such a specialist’s salary is significantly higher than in the regions as a whole.

If we consider beginning specialists, then the monthly salary in this case is 60-70 thousand rubles, although if you are lucky, you can find a vacancy that will offer 80 thousand rubles. But a specialist of the highest category, with experience and recommendations, can find a place in a good clinic with a salary of at least 100 thousand rubles, or even up to 140 thousand rubles with all allowances. In elite dental clinics, such a specialist can be paid 200-250 thousand rubles monthly. But the requirements there are much higher, and the range of responsibilities is wider, and you often have to work with capricious patients.

Benefits, bonuses, retirement

In the Russian Federation, dental technicians are given some bonuses for working in this industry. The most advantageous thing is that if there are dental problems, the master can make a prosthesis for himself or contact a colleague for consultation, which will save time and money.

An even bigger advantage is the paid vacation extended to 45 days. In public clinics, milk is provided to specialists free of charge.

There is no provision for retirement based on length of service in the profession of a dental technician.

In conclusion, we can say that today the profession of a dental technician is not only promising and highly paid, but also very necessary for people. Every person wants to have healthy teeth, a beautiful smile and does everything possible to meet their needs and desires.

Salary in other regions of Russia

Although the Moscow region is usually significantly inferior to the capital in terms of the level of wages, this does not apply to a profession such as a dental technician. The salary level in the region is 60-150 thousand rubles per month, depending on qualifications and place of work.

In St. Petersburg, the salary of a beginning dentist is 50 thousand rubles, and for a specialist of the highest category - 72-73 thousand rubles. But you can also find higher salaries - up to 100 thousand rubles. Almost the same ratio is observed in the Leningrad region.

In most Russian regions, the average monthly salary of a dental technician is 35-60 thousand rubles. However, in Yakutia and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (northeast of the country) there are territorial coefficients that are calculated for work under special conditions. Since the coefficient is 1.8-2.0, a dental technician in public clinics in these regions earns almost twice as much as his colleagues in the central part of the country.

If we take private clinics, then the leader here is the Krasnodar region. Here you can also find salaries at the level of 150-200 thousand rubles. It is followed by the Rostov region, where in private clinics dental technicians can earn 85-110 thousand rubles. In the Murmansk region, the average monthly salary is 80-90 thousand rubles. Dental technicians in the Sverdlovsk region receive the least amount – 40-60 thousand rubles.

How to become a dentist

You can become a professional dentist who can count on a high salary if you know some rules:

  1. It is important to get a specialized education in a good educational institution that provides valuable knowledge;
  2. The level of qualifications needs to be raised through specialized courses, as they contribute to the development of theoretical and practical capabilities;
  3. It is necessary to strive to gain experience, so you should not neglect practices, as this is the right path to receiving positive recommendations.

Dental technicians are high-level doctors due to the complexity of the procedure, so the salary level depends on the capabilities of the specialist and his knowledge.

In Russia there is every chance of getting a highly paid position, but it is important not to neglect the rules as part of training and advanced training.

What salary do dental technicians live on in Western countries?

In almost all countries, dental technician is a promising profession. But, perhaps, such work is best paid in the USA. In this country, it is customary to pay a lot of attention to dental health and the beauty of a smile, so dentists are traditionally among the most highly paid experts. But the techniques are not too inferior to them. Even an employee with no experience can count on a rate of 6 thousand dollars per month. At the same time, a more experienced and qualified professional can receive up to 120 thousand dollars a year. It is clear that place of residence plays an important role here, and in a metropolis or state capital there are more vacancies and higher salaries.

In France, the profession in question does not pay as well as in America. However, on average their monthly earnings are even higher than those of doctors in other medical specialties. For example, a recently graduated dental technician receives 2.5-3 thousand euros before taxes. Over time, having joined a reputable clinic or gained experience, such a specialist can already earn 5-6 thousand euros.

But in Germany, the salaries of such specialists are at the same level as the salaries of other medical workers with appropriate qualifications and education. In particular, a dental technician without practical experience will receive a salary of up to 2 thousand euros per month in accordance with the tariff schedule. By becoming more experienced and improving his qualifications, he will be able to increase his salary to 3 thousand euros.

What qualities should a person want to become a dental technician have?

Let's list the main ones, without which work will bring neither pleasure nor profit.

Responsibility. Perhaps one of the main advantages that any medical professional should have. Without a serious attitude to the results of your work, nothing good can be expected. The appearance and health of the patient who comes to the orthopedic dentist’s office with the dream of a beautiful smile depends on how responsibly the dental technician approaches the work.

Desire to constantly learn. In order to become a good and sought-after specialist in your field, practice alone is not enough. Science does not stand still, and new materials and equipment appear with enviable regularity, therefore, in order to always be on top, a specialist must constantly learn and improve his skills.

Perseverance. The work of a dental technician is quite monotonous and requires the ability to remain at the table for hours, bringing every detail to perfection.

Well-developed hand motor skills. Representatives of this profession often have to deal with very small elements, so a person must be able to control the work of his fingers well and regularly train their mobility.

A penchant for exact sciences will be useful in order to competently make the necessary calculations. Knowledge in the field of mathematics, chemistry and physics will definitely not be superfluous.

Love for creativity. Despite what is written in the previous paragraph, a good dental technician cannot be a “techie” in its pure form. A creative streak is a must for him, because he sculpts and carves new perfect smiles for his patients, just as a skilled sculptor sculpts his next masterpiece from clay or marble.

Good health. The production of dentures is considered harmful for a reason. Constant sedentary work, the need to strain your eyesight, vibration from the instruments used, inhalation of dust and fumes of acids and alkalis can negatively affect the general condition of the body, so it is better for people with diseases of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory system and visual organs to abstain from this profession for the sake of their for your own good.

Remuneration in organizations financed from budgets of different levels

10.08.2012

Tatyana Tarasova,
leading expert consultant of the Department of Additional Budgetary institutions, when developing a remuneration system, are guided primarily by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, as well as legislative acts that regulate the procedure for establishing a remuneration system at the federal, regional, municipal levels and sectoral federal, regional, municipal acts. However, although budgetary institutions use generally accepted standards when establishing a wage system, the formation and establishment of a wage fund in budgetary institutions differs significantly from the generally accepted one.

Recommendations for remuneration of employees of state and municipal institutions

Federal budgetary (state) institutions are obliged to use federal laws (other regulatory legal acts) when establishing wages. Currently in force is Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 05.08.2008 No. 583 “On the introduction of new systems of remuneration for employees of federal budgetary and government institutions and federal state bodies, as well as civilian personnel of military units, institutions and divisions of federal executive authorities, in which the law provides military and equivalent service, the remuneration of which is currently carried out on the basis of the Unified tariff schedule for remuneration of employees of federal government institutions" (together with the Regulations on the establishment of remuneration systems for employees of federal budgetary and government institutions (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations). In addition, , institutions at any level must take into account the Unified Recommendations for the establishment at the federal, regional and local levels of remuneration systems for employees of organizations financed from the relevant budgets.The decision of the Russian Tripartite Commission for the Regulation of Social and Labor Relations dated December 27, 2011, Protocol No. 10, approved the Unified Recommendations on the establishment at the federal, regional and local levels of remuneration systems for employees of state and municipal institutions for 2012 (hereinafter referred to as the Recommendations). Recommendations for 2012 are supplemented by the principle of ensuring that the salary of each employee depends on his qualifications, the complexity of the work performed, the quantity and quality of labor expended, without limiting it to the maximum amount. Thus, it is intended to provide the heads of institutions with the opportunity to attract the most highly qualified specialists.

Pay fund and wage system for public sector employees

Every year, in accordance with paragraph 28 of the Recommendations, the wage fund is formed based on: •the amount of subsidies provided to federal budgetary institutions to reimburse regulatory costs associated with their provision of public services (performance of work) in accordance with the state assignment, volumes of funds; •volumes of state extra-budgetary funds aimed at reimbursing the costs of institutions for the provision of medical services, and funds received from income-generating activities. The remuneration system must be fixed in collective agreements, agreements, local regulations of institutions (for example, in regulations on remuneration, on incentive and compensation payments, on bonuses for employees, etc.). Also, the listed local acts prescribe the actual amounts of salaries and payments, and the conditions for their provision. In particular, remuneration of workers, according to Art. 129 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, includes: •basic (official) salaries; •remuneration for work depending on qualifications, complexity, quantity, quality and conditions of the work performed; •compensation payments (additional payments and bonuses of a compensatory nature, including for work in conditions deviating from normal, work in special climatic conditions and in territories exposed to radioactive contamination, and other payments of a compensatory nature); •incentive payments (additional payments and bonuses of an incentive nature, bonuses and other incentive payments). The Recommendations propose to use basic (municipal) tariff rates, salaries (official salaries), wage rates, which are proposed in the approximate provisions on remuneration of employees of institutions by type of economic activity, approved by state authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and local governments only as guidelines , without indicating them in the regulations on remuneration of employees of specific organizations. The basic salary (basic official salary), the basic wage rate serve as minimum guarantees for the payment of labor to employees of budgetary institutions.

Basic regulations and principles

In accordance with the Recommendations and Regulations, when developing and changing new remuneration systems, it is necessary to take into account: •Unified tariff and qualification directory of works and professions of workers; •Unified qualification reference book for positions of managers, specialists and employees; •professional qualification groups approved by the federal executive body exercising the functions of developing state policy and legal regulation in the field of labor; •lists of types of compensation and incentive payments; •approximate provisions on remuneration of employees of federal institutions by type of economic activity, approved by federal government bodies and institutions; •opinion of the representative body of workers. The establishment and change of remuneration systems for employees of state and municipal institutions are carried out taking into account: a) the creation of conditions for remuneration of employees depending on the results and quality of work, as well as their interest in the effective functioning of structural divisions and the institution as a whole, in improving the quality of services provided ; b) the achieved level of remuneration; c) ensuring state guarantees for wages; d) increased wages for workers engaged in heavy work, work with harmful and (or) dangerous and other special working conditions, but not lower than the amounts established by labor legislation and other regulatory legal acts containing labor law norms; e) payments for performing overtime work, work at night, weekends and non-working holidays and for performing work in other conditions deviating from normal, but not lower than the amounts established by labor legislation and other regulatory legal acts containing labor law norms; f) the wage fund formed for the calendar year; g) the opinions of the relevant trade unions (associations of trade unions); h) the procedure for certification of employees of state and municipal institutions, established in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation; i) standard labor standards for homogeneous work (intersectoral, sectoral and other labor standards, including time standards, production standards, number standards, standard (recommended) staffing standards, service standards and other standards approved in the manner established by the legislation of the Russian Federation). The amounts and conditions for making incentive payments for all categories of employees of institutions are established by collective agreements, agreements, and local regulations on the basis of formalized indicators and performance criteria, measured by qualitative and quantitative indicators.

Remuneration and incentive payments to management personnel

The salaries of heads of budgetary institutions, as well as their deputies and chief accountants, consist of official salaries, compensation and incentive payments.
The amounts and conditions for making incentive payments are established by the founder of a particular budget institution. The official salary of the manager is determined by the employment contract (additional agreement to the employment contract) and is set in an amount not exceeding 5 times the average salary of employees included in the lists of positions and professions of employees of institutions related to the main personnel by type of economic activity. These lists are approved by the relevant federal executive body in agreement with the federal executive body exercising the functions of developing state policy and legal regulation in the field of labor. According to the Regulations, the main personnel of an institution include employees who directly ensure the performance of the main functions for which the institution was created. Such lists by type of economic activity are established by federal government bodies and institutions - the main managers of federal budget funds in agreement with the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia. The procedure for calculating the average salary of employees of the main personnel of an institution to determine the amount of the official salary of the head of a federal budgetary institution was approved by Order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia dated 04/08/2008 No. 167n “On approval of the Procedure for calculating the amount of the average salary to determine the amount of the official salary of the head of a federal budgetary institution.” In accordance with paragraph 5 of the above Procedure, the average monthly number of core personnel working full time is calculated by summing the number of these workers for each calendar day of the month (from the 1st to the 31st, for February - on the 28th e or the 29th), including weekends and non-working holidays, and dividing the resulting amount by the number of calendar days of the month. The number of employees on weekends and non-working holidays is taken to be equal to their number on the working day preceding the weekend or non-working holidays. In this case, only employees who work full time and whom the employer takes into account in the time sheet are taken into account in the calculation. Next, the average number of part-time workers for the reporting month is determined in terms of full employment by dividing the person-days worked by the number of working days in the reporting month according to the calendar. The resulting number of full-time workers is added to the number of part-time workers. The official salaries of deputy heads and chief accountants of institutions are set by the employer at 10-30% lower than the official salaries of the heads of these institutions. Other conditions of remuneration for the specified workers are established by collective agreements and local acts of institutions. Compensatory payments are established for heads of institutions, their deputies and chief accountants as a percentage of official salaries or in absolute amounts, unless otherwise established by federal laws or decrees of the President of the Russian Federation. When establishing incentive payments to the heads of institutions, the main managers of federal budget funds in charge of the institutions have the right to centralize up to 5% of the limits of budget obligations provided for remuneration of employees. In general, I would like to note that the wages of employees of budgetary institutions are set at the local level, in particular by the head of the budgetary institution, but it must be no less than the base salary (official salary) depending on the type of budgetary institution and also depends on the amount of subsidies allocated to the budgetary institution. The salary of the head of a budgetary institution directly depends on the salary of the main staff, which he sets for them. All articles

Supplement to salary

Many dentists have impressive “supplements” to their basic salary. Detailed information is presented in the plate.

Type of allowanceDescription
PremiumLarge clinics practice issuing bonuses. Their value depends on the amount that patients spent on treatment. The more clients a doctor has, the higher his bonus amount.
State allowancesPaid to doctors working in municipal institutions. Government premiums are a percentage of the cost of dental procedures that are not covered by insurance.
Independent incomeSome dentists have the ability to accept patients without being recorded in the documentation. This approach is practiced in private dentistry.
