Professional whitening Opalescence

Professional teeth whitening Opalescence is carried out exclusively in the dentist’s office: that is why it is also called in-office. The manufacturer offers several different systems that differ in composition and purpose.

• Teeth whitening Opalescence Boost (Xtra)
  is one of the most popular. This is a highly concentrated gel with 35 percent hydrogen peroxide. The Opalescence Boost whitening system contains a powerful whitening formula with carotene, which allows you to achieve positive results almost instantly. Used for express whitening of a fragment of the dentition or one tooth. Allows intracoronal whitening of pulpless teeth.
• Teeth whitening Opalescence PF
  is intended for sensitive teeth. The abbreviation PF means that the gel contains potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride, which reduce hypersensitivity and protect the enamel. During one visit to the doctor, you can apply the gel two or three times, and repeat the procedure after a few days.
• Intra-canal bleaching Opalescence Endo

• Opalustre suspension
  containing silicon carbide particles and hydrochloric acid (6.6%). Used to eliminate shallow enamel defects caused by diseases (fluorosis, hypoplasia, etc.). Microabrasive treatment with a suspension allows you to eliminate pigment spots, unevenness and restore uniformity to the enamel. Often used in conjunction with professional whitening to achieve optimal results.

Mixing Opalescence Boost

1. Make sure the syringes are securely connected before mixing the components. Follow the illustrated instructions included in the package.
2. By pressing the plunger of the red syringe, squeeze its contents into the transparent one.
3. Press the small plunger of the clear syringe quickly and firmly to rupture the inner membrane and mix the whitening gel with the activator.
4. Continue pressing down on the plunger of the clear syringe until all of the gel is in the red syringe.
5. Repeat the movement in the opposite direction and quickly pump the drug between the syringes at least 50 times (25 times in each direction) (Fig. 4).
6. Squeeze all the gel into the RED syringe.
7. Turn and separate the syringes and attach the Micro 20g FX tip application cannula to the red syringe.

ATTENTION: Opalescence Boost is effective for 10 days after activation if stored in the refrigerator

How does Opalescence professional teeth whitening work?

Activation of the gel occurs according to the “syringe to syringe” concept. By distilling the active components, the desired consistency of the whitening gel is achieved, which self-activates after application to the surface of the teeth. The exceptions are Opalescence Endo and Opalustre suspension, which are supplied to clinics in ready-made form. The entire procedure can be divided into several key stages.

1. Consultation.
   A meeting with a dentist, at which indications and contraindications are identified, and a treatment plan is drawn up.
2. Preparatory part.
   Treatment of dental diseases (if necessary) and professional teeth cleaning. The Vita scale is used to coordinate the desired enamel color.
3. Main part.
   The doctor prepares the patient’s oral cavity for whitening: he dries the teeth, applies a protective mixture to the gums, and also allocates a working area using a rubber dam. Then the whitening gel is mixed and applied. On average, one stage lasts 20 - 30 minutes, after which the Opalescence whitening gel is removed and, if necessary, a second session is performed.
4. Completion of the procedure.
   Rinse and dry teeth, treat with special preparations to reduce hypersensitivity and restore enamel.

Directions for use:

Insulation – OpalDam Green (recommended insulation):

1. Place the Ultradent IsoBlock bite block in the mouth (Figure 1).
2. Remove the protective cap from the OpalDam Green syringe and attach a disposable cannula (Micro 20ga tip).
3. Before using the material in the mouth, check its output from the syringe.
4. Install a lip and cheek retractor.
5. Rinse and dry your teeth thoroughly, paying special attention to the cervical area.
6. Extrude OpalDam Green to create a stripe that overlaps the enamel by approximately 0.5mm. Extend the barrier beyond the last tooth to be whitened.
7. Continue forming the barrier until it overlaps the gum by 4-6 mm and is 1.5-2.0 mm thick (Figure 2).
8. Where there are open interdental spaces, squeeze the resin through the gap to the lingual side, completely filling the space and closing the interdental papillae.
9. Using a dental mirror, inspect isolated teeth and apply additional medication to any uncovered areas.
10. After applying the material, cure each portion for 20 seconds by moving the light guide along the applied barrier. Carefully check the curing of the material with the tool (Figure 3).

Home whitening Opalescence

The Opalescence home whitening system is designed to whiten teeth by 3 to 4 shades, as well as to consolidate the results of professional whitening. It is suitable for those who do not need radical enamel lightening, or for those who for some reason cannot undergo in-office whitening with Opalescence Boost.

Types of home teeth whitening Opalescence

Opalescence PF

A set of gels whose active substance is carbamide peroxide (concentration from 10 to 20%). The product contains water to prevent tooth dehydration, as well as potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride to reduce hypersensitivity. The kit includes disposable syringes with gel for filling the tray. The mode of wearing trays can be different (from two to ten hours a day) and depends on the condition of the enamel and the expected results of whitening.

Opalescence TresWhite Supreme

A viscous gel based on hydrogen peroxide, which is available in mint, peach or melon flavors. Unlike Opalescence PF, this kit does not require additional manipulations. Opalescence TresWhite Supreme whitening trays are already filled with the right amount of gel. Each set contains 10 trays for the upper and lower jaws. Noticeable results appear from wearing the mouth guard for at least one hour a day.

TresWhite Ortho Mint

Whitening kit for patients with orthodontic appliances. Contains Opalescence teeth whitening gel with 6% hydrogen peroxide with an antibacterial effect. Ten trays for the upper and lower jaws are pre-filled with gel. After installation, the upper part of the tray is separated, and the lower part fits tightly to the teeth, which allows the gel to effectively whiten the enamel under braces.

Opalescence Follow-Up Kit

A set of several trays with whitening and restoring gels, as well as branded toothpaste. Designed to consolidate the results of professional whitening.

Application of Opalescence Boost:

1. Before applying the material in the oral cavity, check the uniformity of its release from the syringe on a cotton swab or mixing pad. If you experience resistance when applying pressure to the plunger, replace the cannula and try again. Use only recommended cannulas. NOTE: If plunger resistance continues after replacing the cannula, DO NOT use this syringe but contact Ultradent Service for replacement.
2. Apply Opalescence Boost in a layer of 0.5-1.0 mm thickness to the vestibular surfaces of the teeth to be whitened, slightly overlapping the cutting edges or occlusal surfaces (Fig. 5).
3. The exposure time of the drug is 20 minutes. The condition of the gel should be periodically monitored by reapplying it to areas where the gel layer has become thin or insufficient.
4. Remove the gel from the surface of the teeth using a Luer Vac and SST (Surgical Suction Tip) or a surgical suction tip. Do not wash off the gel with water, this may cause it to splash. Perform all manipulations carefully so as not to displace the protective barrier or rubber dam (Fig. 6).
5. Assess the change in shade after each application and monitor the patient for signs of sensitivity and irritation. If tooth sensitivity or soft tissue irritation occurs regularly, discontinue use.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 twice or until desired result is achieved. Do not apply more than 3 times in one visit.
7. If additional whitening is required and there is no significant sensitivity, the patient can be scheduled for an appointment after 3-5 days and treatment repeated.
