Asymmetry: why one side of the face looks better than the other

I always knew that my face, as well as the faces of other people, is not characterized by absolute symmetry and did not see a big problem in that. However, over time, I began to notice that one side of the face looked not just slightly different, but frankly worse than the other: the skin and muscles on it were less elastic, and the wrinkles were deeper. Worried, I went to a specialist to find out the reason for the changes happening to me. “There really are no absolutely symmetrical faces in nature,” says Irina Ivanova , cosmetologist-dermatologist, doctor of the highest category at the Doctorplastic clinic. — The left side is always softer, feminine, slightly elongated vertically. The right one is wider and less feminine. It should be noted that such physiological asymmetry is practically not perceived visually. It is due to the fact that the hemispheres of the brain regulate the motor skills and sensory functions of the halves of the body differently, and therefore the facial activity of different sides of the face is somewhat different. Another thing is acquired asymmetry, which arises for completely different reasons. Here are the most common ones."

Dental problems

Dentists never tire of repeating that the loss of a tooth, and especially several, is also a serious aesthetic problem. The connection between a full set of teeth and a beautiful oval face is the most direct. After tooth extraction, the bone partitions from which the tooth socket was formed gradually dissolve, and a dent forms on the jaw. At the same time, the jaw is deformed, slightly decreasing in height and diameter. This leads to tension in small facial muscles and the formation of new wrinkles or the deepening of old ones. If several teeth are missing in the lower jaw, the angle of its location may change, and the soft tissues of the face may shift, forming wrinkles and creases. Timely prosthetics will help avoid jaw deformation and maintain beautiful facial contours. Artificial analogues of teeth will not allow the jaw to decrease in size and will support the functioning of the chewing muscles and jaw joints.

How to remove jowls on your face at home

It is quite difficult to cope with such a problem at home. All methods can be classified as preventative rather than producing tangible results.

The most effective method can only be if a person is overweight. With proper weight loss, fat will disappear from the cheeks, and with additional care, the skin will quickly tighten and create a harmonious oval of the face. However, you should not allow sudden weight loss, which will only worsen the problem. The best option is to lose 4-5 kg per month under the strict supervision of a nutritionist and endocrinologist.

If the problem has not yet gone far and is just beginning to appear, use massages, masks, and exercises as a correction or prevention.

What does cosmetology offer for facial rejuvenation?

Now that you have understood the basics of dental pathologies that affect the appearance of the lower third of the face, let's look at the main range of cosmetic procedures that are aimed at maintaining facial tissue and skin in tone and which have an externally rejuvenating effect.

Let us immediately make a reservation that most of these procedures do not have a permanent effect, and in order to always look young (not only in the soul, but also in appearance), these rejuvenation procedures must be repeated regularly.

So, modern rejuvenation methods guard your beauty

It turns out that jowls “after 40” can be avoided

Hollywood beauty standards have long been shaping the fashion on faces and in everyday life: beautiful, high cheekbones and the effect of sunken cheeks even after 50.

The procedure for removing Bisha's lumps performed at a young age is a reliable prevention of the formation of jowls after forty. By the way, it is used not only to get rid of excess cheek fat.

This technique has a dazzling bonus for correcting the shape of the face: you can noticeably highlight the cheekbones and create the effect of sunken cheeks a la Angelina Jolie, lighten the lower part of the face, visually making it narrower and more prominent.

During the procedure, Bisha's fatty lumps are not completely removed. This approach allows you to get “thoroughbred” and young, blooming cheekbones, avoiding the effect of a haggard face.

Sunken cheeks

Such a violation of occlusion as an open bite is characterized by a violation of the closure of teeth, the formation of a noticeable gap between the incisors and canines of the upper and lower jaws. A gap can also form in the side sections. Disocclusion of the front teeth leads to the fact that the mouth is constantly slightly open, the lips do not close. This makes the facial expression look surprised. The presence of a gap in the lateral sections of the dentition leads to retraction of the cheeks, similar to that observed with the loss of large and small molars.

Contour plastic surgery of jowls

Facial reinforcement with Radiesse gel or RegenLAb plasma filler. The drugs are injected deeply into the periosteum area under the cheekbones. Thanks to this technique, the face restores youthful volume, acquires clear, graceful contours and a heart shape.

In the injection area, gels as a bonus start the process of skin restoration and help to significantly refresh it, eliminate wrinkles and smooth out folds.

Remember! There is no point in injecting gel or lipofilling directly into the lower jaw. This will solve the problem (and only briefly) for those whose sagging is caused by excess skin and is not accompanied by excess fat.

Diagnostics

To select a treatment regimen, the doctor conducts an initial examination:

  • clarifies the medical history, conducts an examination;
  • physical examination is used to assess anomalies in different positions, determine the presence of tumor formations, edema, injuries and consequences, the condition of teeth, oral tissues;
  • X-rays are used to assess the condition of the nasal sinuses, rows and individual units; if necessary, examination of the spinal column and skull is prescribed.
  • sonography of the salivary glands and sinuses is performed;
  • for a detailed examination of the tissues, the dentist may refer the Patient to an MRI or CT scan;
  • analysis of bite, supercontact (if any), occlusion is performed using a complete orthodontic examination.

Additionally, consultation with the following specialists may be required:

  • neurosurgeon (prescribed CT scan to examine the brain);
  • neurologist (the innervation of the muscles of the facial area is assessed, including the movement of the eyebrows, cheeks, eyelids and others);
  • otolaryngologist (audiometry, puncture, tuning fork and other types of studies are performed).

The conclusion is made based on the results of the examination; additional laboratory tests may be prescribed, for example, if bacterial or infectious lesions are suspected. A treatment plan is drawn up only after the diagnosis has been completed and the results have been carefully reviewed.

What not to do if your cheek is swollen

Before removing the swelling, so as not to worsen the situation, you need to understand what can be done and what cannot be done. If you are not sure of the cause of the swelling, you do not need to apply any compresses, neither warm nor cold, before visiting the doctor. Such actions are fraught with negative consequences. For example, when pus forms, a hot compress can accelerate the development of the pathological process. It is not even recommended to sleep on the sore side. You should also not disturb the swollen cheek, press or massage it.

You should not take painkillers immediately before your visit to the doctor. It can obscure the clinical picture and complicate the diagnosis. It is also prohibited to use any medications without a doctor’s prescription and supervision, especially antibiotics, which affect not only the cause of the disease, but also the entire body.

Treatment for inflammation of the facial nerve

Drug treatment

Treatment of trigeminal neuritis is complex. The disease is first treated with medication - the patient is prescribed drugs that will alleviate the situation. These include painkillers, decongestants, vasodilators and B vitamins. Most often, the recommended medications are tablets, but you can speed up the recovery process by using ointments and gels. Sometimes doctors prescribe intramuscular injections.

In special cases, the recovery process of the facial nerve may be slowed down. Then the patient is prescribed glucocorticosteroids, which improve the metabolic processes of nervous tissue. Various biostimulants and hyaluronidases also contribute to a speedy recovery.

You cannot prescribe medications for yourself. Be sure to see a neurologist or neuropathologist at the first symptoms to determine the diagnosis and treatment strategy. Recovery medications are recommended to patients on a case-by-case basis, paying attention to the presence of chronic diseases, symptoms, and so on.

Surgery

Another way to treat the facial nerve is surgery. However, doctors turn to this option quite rarely - only when the trigeminal nerve is ruptured. Surgery is also required if there is no effect from the conservative method after six months or a year. Surgical intervention is only relevant during the first year of the presence of the disease; later, the muscles on the face irreversibly atrophy.

The surgical process involves suturing the damaged area of the facial nerve to restore its motor function.

Massage

The next treatment method is massage for the treatment of the facial nerve. The purpose of this method is to remove swelling, improve blood circulation, restore sensitivity and conduction of nerve impulses. Massage is contraindicated for tuberculosis, oncology, atherosclerosis and elevated temperature.

Initially, the massage therapist works only with the healthy side of the face, collar area, neck and area above the shoulders. Basically, the master uses rubbing, stroking, kneading and vibration.

For noticeable desired changes, it is necessary to conduct ten to twenty massage sessions from five to fifteen minutes. The duration is determined based on the degree of inflammation of the trigeminal nerve, the goals of therapy and the dynamics of recovery.

Physiotherapy

The next treatment method is physical therapy. It alleviates the severity of symptoms, helps to activate metabolic processes in tissues and restore the functions of the facial nerve.

Doctors prescribe this course of treatment from the first days of the onset of neuritis. The list of physical procedures includes:

  • Ultrasound
  • Laser irradiation of blood
  • Electrophoresis of drugs
  • Microwave therapy
  • Exposure to ultra-high frequency electricity
  • Ozocerite treatment
  • Myoelectrostimulation
  • Darsonvalization

This complex is indicated for the first week of treatment. Doctors prescribe it together with medication. This tandem helps speed up the process of restoration of the facial nerve. And its most important advantages are the absence of side effects and painlessness.

Alternative Methods

There are also alternative treatment methods. These are procedures aimed at restoring facial muscles and eliminating the symptoms of facial neuritis. Such procedures include:

  • Clay or paraffin masks
  • Acupuncture
  • Reflexology
  • Injections to eliminate muscle disorders
  • Therapeutic baths
  • Taping – stretching the face using adhesive plasters
  • Immunosorption – purification of blood from antigens and antibodies
  • Biofeedback – facial muscle training

Gymnastics for the face

Also, in conjunction with complex treatment, you can do facial exercises. Before this, you need to consult with a specialist; the doctor will draw up an individual list of exercises based on the severity of the process, location of the lesion and symptoms. Typically, such gymnastics takes about ten minutes a day.

A standard set of exercises includes relaxing and tensing individual facial muscles. For example, to restore articulation, it is recommended to pronounce the sounds “u”, “o”, “and”. Afterwards, you need to bring your lower lip under your upper teeth and reproduce the sounds “v” and “a”.

Gymnastics for inflammation of the trigeminal nerve:

  1. Close eyes
  2. Raise your eyebrows
  3. Frown
  4. Squint
  5. Smile with your mouth closed
  6. Smile with your mouth open
  7. Puff up your cheeks
  8. Pull them back
  9. Whistle
  10. Widen your nostrils
  11. Curl your lips
  12. Raise your upper lip and return to the starting position
  13. Lower your lower lip and return to the starting position
  14. Take water into your mouth
  15. Rinse your mouth
  16. Close your mouth
  17. Run the tip of your tongue along your gums
  18. Move your tongue right and left

Correction of facial asymmetry

A certain percentage of people turn to cosmetologists or plastic surgeons specifically about the asymmetrical arrangement of facial elements. However, most often the disproportion of the latter is determined by a cosmetologist during an examination regarding the correction of any other defects or by a plastic surgeon who is planning, for example, a volumetric plastic surgery.

The shape and symmetry of all points depends on the structure of the bones and cartilages of the facial skull, the degree of development, volume and tone of the facial and masticatory muscles, passing nerves and blood vessels, the volume and thickness of subcutaneous fatty tissue, etc.

Of the many formations of the facial skull, including osteochondral structures, the most important cosmetic and aesthetic formation is the nose. Its shapes and sizes not only determine aesthetics, but are also the main ones in cases of asymmetry formation. The latter, if you look closely, can be expressed in unevenness or differences in the contours of the eyebrows, in different shapes of the corners of the mouth and the depth of the nasolabial folds, in different sizes and shapes of the ears, the position of the wings of the nose, etc.

Facial asymmetry is primarily, from a neurological point of view, determined by the lack of symmetry in the hemispheres of the brain. Each of the cerebral hemispheres regulates sensations (sensory) and motor functions of the corresponding halves of the body in different ways. At the same time, one person’s perception of another’s facial expressions also depends on the state of interaction between the hemispheres of the brain in a particular person.

Static or morphological type

This type of symmetry violation is characterized by the presence of differences in the state of rest between individual elements in size, structure, shape and proportions. The reasons for these differences lie in individual developmental characteristics, pathology of the bones of the facial skull, pathology of the masticatory and facial muscles, and the consequences of diseases and traumatic injuries.

Types of asymmetry A Static or morphological B Dynamic or functional

Dynamic or functional type

Consists in asynchronous contractions of the facial muscles and manifests itself during facial expressions. For example, a disproportion that is absent at rest or a moderate disproportion at rest, respectively, appears or significantly increases when smiling or stretching out the lips in the form of a tube. The dynamic form of asymmetry is associated with congenital or acquired pathology of facial muscles, residual effects of damage to the central facial nerve (cerebrovascular accident) or peripheral in the form of Bell's palsy. In this case, the severity of the imbalances depends on the degree of damage (neuropathy) of the facial nerve.

Therapy for the pathology in question is based on diagnosing the cause, establishing the type and degree of the pathological condition and prescribing treatment for the corresponding pathology in combination with the use of neurotrophic methods.

Since the most common cause is facial neuropathy, the main principles of treatment are:

  1. Use of appropriate specific (neurological) traditional drug therapy.
  2. Injections of botulinum toxin preparations on the “healthy” and/or affected side.
  3. The use of stabilized hyaluronic acid fillers.
  4. Carrying out surgical correction or thread lifting.

In addition, in almost all cases, gymnastics against facial asymmetry and electrical stimulation procedures can be used (in the absence of contraindications to their implementation).

In order to carry out botulinum therapy, briefly described above, various preparations of botulinum toxin “A” can be used, in particular “Botox”, “Dysport” and, especially, “Lantox”. In case of paralysis and paresis, correction with these means is carried out on the healthy (conditionally) half of the face, since it is here that increased muscle tone is formed.

Surgical treatment of facial asymmetry

Dermal gels

At the next stage (after botulinum therapy), contouring and correction of soft tissue volumes are carried out using hyaluronic acid fillers. These drugs, as part of complex therapy (surgical treatment and botulinum therapy), make it possible to achieve high functional and aesthetic results in patients with long-term and severe forms of paralysis of the facial muscles.

Preparations of stabilized hyaluronic acid can not only eliminate the disproportion of areas and restore the aesthetic condition, but also have a pronounced therapeutic effect due to the improvement of microcirculation and trophic processes in tissues.

Experts in neurology consider plastic, hypoallergenic, devoid of cellular and gene toxicity, new-generation hyaluronic acid-based fillers with a special three-dimensional structure from the “Bellcontour” line of the Swiss pharmaceutical concern “Hyal Intertrade SA” to be optimal. Contour plastic surgery is carried out using classical filler injection techniques - linear, fan, multipuncture, “mesh”.

Neuropathy of the facial nerve on the right A initial state B picture after botulinum therapy (Lantox) and injection plastic surgery (Bellcontour) C state before D after volumetric correction

Surgical treatment and thread lifting

In cases where the asymmetry is characterized by significant severity (more than 5 cm in total), surgical correction is required, since conservative treatment methods are not able to provide satisfactory results not only functionally, but also aesthetically.

At the same time, in case of paresis, local damage to the terminal sections or the first branch of the facial nerve, in the presence of certain concomitant diseases or the patient’s refusal of surgical treatment, correction is possible through minimally invasive thread lifting (tightening). It is usually carried out in combination with botulinum therapy and correction after surgery with stabilized hyaluronic acid fillers or during surgery with autologous fat (lipofilling).

Visual reduction in facial height

The height of the lower third of the face is reduced in patients with a deep bite, in which the upper teeth overlap the lower teeth by more than half the length of the crown. Unlike distal occlusion, with deep occlusion, the dentition does not touch either in the area of the anterior or lateral teeth due to the fact that the upper jaw is much larger in size than the lower jaw. A severe degree of occlusion is characterized by the fact that the teeth rest against the soft tissue of the gums and injure them.

It would seem that the height of the teeth is not so large, the decrease in the longitudinal size of the face is 5 mm or less. But this is often enough to create a noticeable disproportion. The impression is complemented by the protruding lower lip and the habit of pursing the lips to avoid turning the excessively long lower lip outward. Pursed lips visually become thin, the mouth is always tense. People with high foreheads may have a noticeable disproportion between the upper and lower thirds of the face. If the forehead is not high enough, then all facial features are visually assessed as small, and the face itself becomes small.

Reasons why facial asymmetry occurs

Look in the mirror, and suddenly you discover that the right and left sides of your face seem to be similar to each other, but the other is not. Either one eyebrow does not correspond to the other, or the eyes are somehow different: one is larger, the other is smaller. What are the causes of facial asymmetry?

  • The root cause is the mystery of birth. This is accompanied by incorrect construction of the skull bones.
  • The joint responsible for connecting the lower jaw and temple develops with disruption.
  • Muscle and connective tissue interact weakly with each other.
  • The lower jaw develops slowly.

Past injuries, illnesses, insufficient oral and dental care are already acquired problems. There are quite a lot of them.

  • One of them can lead to torticollis if the child lies on one side for a long time.
  • Vision problems that are accompanied by strabismus.
  • Infections and inflammations that cause pinching or damage to the facial nerve.
  • The bones of the face did not heal properly after a fracture of the bridge of the nose.
  • Missing teeth or malocclusion, as well as the bad habit of squinting one eye, are not all the reasons for facial asymmetry.

Often severe facial asymmetry occurs after a stroke. Muscle paralysis occurs.

Symptoms

There are two types of facial asymmetry. The first of them is natural. At the same time, the difference between the right and left sides of the face, say, is almost invisible. And this is natural. If you look closely at your mirror image, you can find a slight difference in the location of, say, eyebrows or eyes.

The left half of the face contains feminine, soft features, while the right half contains sharper and more masculine features. The difference in proportion, as experts say, should be no more than two to three millimeters. In the second, pathological form, the asymmetry of the round face is clearly visible. Due to the weakening of facial muscles, the cheek sags, the corner of the mouth and eyelid droop.

Since some muscles have lost the ability to move, the affected part looks like a mask:

  1. The size of the eye increases.
  2. Facial expressions are poor.
  3. Possible speech impairment.
  4. There are even painful sensations.

If problems appear with the neck muscles, the head tilts to the side. Asymmetry can be either left-sided or right-sided. If it is not so noticeable, then it does not require additional treatment and medical intervention.

A meeting with a neurologist, dentist, ophthalmologist, or neurosurgeon is needed to resolve the issue: how to correct facial asymmetry. To continue serious treatment, doctors suggest undergoing an X-ray of the skull, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and possibly a neurological examination.

To improve muscle tone, people suffering from facial asymmetry are encouraged to do stimulating gymnastics. In such cases, massage helps a lot. A good hairstyle and makeup will help a woman hide it. And men can be decorated with a beard and mustache.

Home care and self-massage for cheek tightening

It is almost impossible to tighten your cheeks at home. Especially if the process has gone far. But when the first signs of sagging cheeks appear, measures can be taken to delay these unfavorable external changes. The measures mentioned include the use of high-quality cosmetics, self-massage, taping and preventive exercises. Cosmetics

All means to minimize the problem of sagging cheeks fit well into the overall strategy of a grueling fight against age-related changes. Lifting effect, restoration of lost tone to the skin, moisturizing, stimulation of cellular renewal - these properties should be possessed by cosmetic products that interest us.

To increase the intensity and frequency of skin cell turnover, use gentle exfoliants. Peeling with fruit acids, accompanied by applying a moisturizer, would be quite appropriate here. Cosmetics with peptides that stimulate the regeneration of cells and tissues of the dermis have proven themselves well. On sale you can find serums and creams that model the contour of the face and create a tightening effect. It is also appropriate in this case to use cosmetics with antioxidants. For example, with coenzyme Q10 and omega-3/6/9 fatty acid complex. These products help maintain skin tone and reduce the negative effects of free radicals. Don't forget about moisturizing serums, creams and masks. Give preference to products containing hyaluronic acid, niacinamides, and glycerin. Maintaining the optimal water balance of the skin and deep layers of the dermis helps prevent the processes of aging and loss of skin turgor like nothing else.

Self-massage

There are a number of reasons and factors causing this problem:

Self-massage can be done manually or using special gadgets. Existing methods of varying degrees of complexity require only one thing from you - not to give up what you started. Below is an example of a very simple self-massage to prevent sagging cheeks. Run your right hand over your chin. Your palm should then slide along the edge of your lower jaw to the base of your left ear. Stay here for half a second, and then move down along the neck to the shoulder. Repeat this sequence at least 10 times. Do the same in a mirror with your left hand. Your movements should be gentle, careful and smooth.

Taping

Taping is a pleasant and easy way to combat sagging cheeks. With the help of elastic bands - tapes, certain parts of the face are fixed in order to return them to the desired position. In the case of cheeks, with the help of tapes, the cheeks are gently lifted and fixed for a given time so that an almost perfect oval of the face is obtained. The effect of taping is usually not very long lasting, and many sessions are required to achieve it.

Correction of facial asymmetry

If flaws in the form of asymmetry suddenly appear in your face, this is not yet a reason to radically change your appearance. You can just use cosmetics and place the accents correctly. In this case, you need to use foundation and correctors. They can be oily or dry. In addition, she uses highlighter in her work. It is needed to visually hide wrinkles or highlight the necessary part.

The asymmetry of the eyes will not be so noticeable if they are not outlined with bright eyeliner. It is better to have tones close in color on hand, to make a soft transition from one color to another. Pencils with a contrasting color will also come in handy. On the inside of the eye, which we want to visually enlarge, it would be good to apply a lighter tone. On the eyelid of the second eye we apply an almost invisible line of dark color.

If the eyes, in your opinion, are still asymmetrical, then you need to place emphasis on the eyelashes and eyebrows. Eyebrows need to be given the perfect shape and arch. Latisse can enhance your eyelashes. A brown pencil can always highlight light eyebrows. And if you pluck an eyebrow that is higher than the other and draw on the eyebrow line with a pencil, your face will take on a completely different expression.

You need to have foundation creams on hand to be able to visually change the shape of your nose. The golden rule: a dark tone is applied to those places that need to be hidden or visually reduced. A lighter tone is used to highlight certain parts of the nose. To make the nose look good, you need to draw a line along the nose in a tone that is darker than natural. And leave a light light highlight on the wings of the nose and its tip.

A contour pencil helps give the lips the desired shape. And then the lips visually lose their asymmetry. You can correct your cheekbones with regular blush. To do this, you need two half-tone blushes that are close in color. They are applied along the cheekbone line, and their heights are different.

Gymnastics to restore symmetry or how facial muscles work

Facial muscles are constantly working. However, if this occurs unevenly, asymmetry may occur. This problem also often appears with age. If this is not associated with the presence of serious diseases, then the problem can be eliminated with the help of gymnastics.

Exercises to eliminate facial asymmetry:

  • The palms hold the muscles and skin of the forehead, while the eyebrows rise as much as possible up and down;
  • We open our eyes as wide as possible and hold this for three counts, relaxing our eyes;
  • We inflate our cheeks as much as possible, count to three and retract them, again counting to three;
  • We inflate and deflate the cheeks one by one;
  • Smile from the top of your mouth without showing your teeth, and then form your lips into a tube;
  • We move the jaw forward, left and right.

We perform each exercise ten times. If done regularly, exercise will give the first results within a month.

Diseases

The cause of acquired asymmetry can be various diseases. “First of all, dysfunction of the facial nerve,” says Irina Ivanova. — With this disease, weakness of the facial muscles develops, the corner of the mouth droops, the upper eyelid droops, the palpebral fissure becomes wider, the nasolabial folds smooth out, and the face on the affected side acquires a pained expression. Injuries, fractures, especially displaced ones, and the consequences of unsuccessful plastic surgeries are also often the reason why the two sides of the face look different.”

According to experts, you can encounter the problem of facial asymmetry at any age. But over time, unfortunately, it becomes more and more noticeable. Simply due to the fact that bad habits live with us longer. “However, do not despair,” says Irina Ivanova. — Asymmetry, as a rule, can be corrected. First of all, it is necessary to eliminate the causes: contact a neurologist, dentist, or orthodontist. There is physiotherapy, gymnastics for facial muscles, massage. To correct violations of proportions and volumes, cosmetologists use contour plastic surgery. Botulinum therapy is also used successfully. In the most severe cases, surgical correction is possible.”

Surgical methods of correction

The best answer to the question of how to correct large cheeks and the situation where one cheek is larger than the other is plastic surgery. The operation in this case is called chicklifting. Specialists at the SM-Plastic clinic perform it in two ways: traditional and minimally invasive.

The first, traditional option involves access to the soft tissues of the cheek through conventional surgical incisions in the lower eyelid area. Today, 90% of such operations in our medical center are performed using minimally invasive techniques. In this case, all manipulations are carried out through several small punctures of the skin, which significantly shortens the postoperative period. SM-Plastic surgeons often combine surgery to lift sagging cheeks with liposuction (removal of excess fat tissue). In addition, with plastic surgery, you can simultaneously adjust their shape and size using lipofilling. This is especially true if one cheek is larger than the other and it is necessary to achieve symmetry.

The duration of such interventions ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours, and they are performed under both general and local anesthesia - it all depends on the volume of correction.

Swelling of the cheek on the inside: what to do

How to remove swelling of the cheek? Depending on the degree of manifestation of the unpleasant symptom and the etiology, different treatment methods are used. Their success depends on the correct diagnosis.

When swelling occurs after dental implantation, ice should be applied to the sore cheek. You need to rinse your mouth lightly. It is important to maintain hygiene, diet and spare the postoperative wound.

Drug treatment

The doctor prescribes medications taking into account the clinical picture and the causes of swelling after a comprehensive diagnosis. You may need:

  • "Miramistin" and "Chlorhexidine" - for rinsing;
  • "Suprastin" is an antihistamine;
  • "Nimesil" is an anti-inflammatory drug;
  • “Amoxiclav”, “Lincomycin” are antibiotics that are prescribed for acute purulent periostitis.

How to relieve the pain accompanying the causative disease? Hexoral solution or spray or Lidocaine Asept aerosol can help. The painful syndrome in a child is relieved with the help of products that are used during teething, for example, Dentinox.

In some cases, conservative treatment is not enough, so surgical techniques are used. If there is suppuration, the doctor opens the gum, exposes the cavity with pus and installs drainage to drain the exudate. Surgery is also performed in the presence of a neoplasm.

Habit of sleeping on one side

Sleep, as you know, is a necessary condition for beauty. However, if you are used to sleeping on one side, you risk losing your beauty while sleeping. The fact is that the tissue on the side of your face, with which you press against the pillow, slowly but inevitably deforms. The oval gradually changes, a network of small wrinkles forms around the eye, deeper folds lie between the eyebrows, and vertical lines form on the cheeks and chin. As cosmetologists say, if you prefer to sleep on one side, then it will quickly become clear which one. The best way to avoid asymmetry and wrinkles while sleeping is to eliminate any contact between your face and your pillow. You can do this by training yourself to fall asleep lying on your back. This way you will not only avoid prolonged pressure on the muscles and skin, but also maintain normal fluid flow throughout the night.

Gymnastics for facial asymmetry

All people's faces are asymmetrical, it's no secret. With the help of exercises, you can partially smooth out facial asymmetry. Asymmetry is visible in the lines of the eyebrows, the level of the cheekbones and nostrils, as well as in the position of the corners of the mouth. These signs show which side is higher and which is lower. This is especially well captured in document photographs.

This is where you can see all the advantages and disadvantages of the face. One side is higher and the other is lower. If a person is right-handed, then, as a rule, the left side of the face will be higher. And if you are left-handed, then the right side of your face will be higher.

With the help of exercises, you can partially smooth out facial asymmetry. In order to remove wrinkles from the forehead, you need to close your hands in a “lock” and press them to your forehead, while covering your eyebrows with your hands. In this position, it is necessary to raise and lower the muscles of the forehead and eyebrows. Raise the lowered eyebrow upward, while holding the eyebrow that is located higher with your hand.

To align the cheekbones, you need to open your mouth as if pronouncing the sound “O” to such an extent that you feel the tension in the muscles. The cheekbone, which is higher, is held with the hand, and the muscle of the second cheekbone is tensed. You can also strain your cheekbone muscles alternately.

Symptoms of inflammation of the trigeminal nerve

Experts include short-term, but acute and intense pain in different parts of the head as the main symptoms of facial neuralgia. Shooting attacks spread over the entire surface of the face - lips, eyes, nose, upper and lower jaw, gums and tongue.

Patients also report the following symptoms:

  • Metallic taste in the mouth
  • Muscle weakness
  • 2-3 days before facial expressions are affected, pain occurs behind the outer ear, spreading to the face, back of the head and eyes
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Inability to close the eye on the affected side
  • Drooping corner of the mouth
  • Dry mouth
  • Slurred speech
  • Cross-eyed strabismus
  • Uncontrollable tearing
  • Disorders of taste buds
  • Increased drooling
  • Facial muscle spasms
  • Increased or decreased facial sensitivity
  • Temperature increase

Due to discomfort and pain, the patient begins to develop a phobia and increased anxiety. He tries to avoid poses and movements that provoke discomfort.

One side of the face is larger than the other: normal or pathological

If you notice that the sides of your face are different, first of all, you need to determine whether it is pathological or normal. To do this, you need to know the symptoms of the pathology.

If there is facial asymmetry, parchment skin may be present. This symptom is associated with a genetic disease.

Asymmetry, which is considered normal, should not be too obvious. If this is a normal facial structure, then the difference is noticeable only upon careful examination.

Symptoms of abnormal facial asymmetry:

  • The affected side is swollen and the tissue may be hard;
  • The corners of the mouth and cheek on the affected side are drooping and drooping;
  • The affected half of the face loses mobility;
  • The folds on the forehead and nose suddenly smooth out sharply;
  • The eye on the affected side becomes narrower, or, conversely, larger;
  • The eyes, nose and lips on the affected side lose mobility;
  • There are speech disorders;
  • The affected part is painful.

How facial rejuvenation changes quality of life

Correct facial features, well-groomed appearance - all this has long been a postulate of beauty. Any of the methods listed above can make changes in your life and give you self-confidence.

But in those methods of restoring and “putting in order” the lower third of the face that we have described, there are methods that eliminate the cause

the symptoms
.

The highest quality option for facial rejuvenation

If the cause of the development of defects is adentia or any other pathology of the dental-jaw system, then first of all it is necessary to eliminate it. And then - proceed to radical cosmetological procedures. It is this combination that will bring the most lasting anti-aging effect.

In terms of costs for maintaining muscle tone and skin elasticity, the combined option is much more profitable. It's easy to calculate it yourself.

The achieved rejuvenating effect will no longer need to be frequently adjusted by new repeated cosmetic surgeries or procedures, for which you have to pay both money and health in general.

ATTENTION!

Any external intervention in the tissue structure does not pass without leaving a trace. And you need to try to reduce it to a minimum.

Reasons for the appearance of rounded cheeks

Excess weight. Excess body fat usually affects your appearance. The shape of the face becomes more rounded.

A certain structure of the skull makes the cheeks round.

Chronic fatigue, lack of sleep, health problems - in particular, with the endocrine system and kidneys - can cause swelling. Fluid may stagnate in the cheek area.

A face can also take on a puffy appearance due to excess salt, sodium and toxic substances in the body.

Poor posture is also the cause of chubby cheeks. In this case, subcutaneous fat is distributed unevenly, due to which the contours of the face are distorted - an unnecessary second chin appears, the face acquires rounded features;

Lack of protein in food consumed. This element is a building material for muscle tissue. Thanks to the latter, subcutaneous fat on the face is transformed into muscles, which allows it to acquire beautiful contours.

With age, those with chubby cheeks may encounter such an unpleasant problem as the appearance of jowls. They occur due to the loss of elastin and collagen in the skin. Often, at the same time, another problem arises - the appearance of nasolabial wrinkles. Together, all these changes make the appearance older and less attractive.

Another trouble that is often associated with chubby cheeks is the presence of redness on them. There can be many reasons for this phenomenon, but the result is usually a vascular network, which gives the skin a reddish tint.

How to prevent cheek swelling: preventive measures

To prevent the manifestation of an unwanted symptom, you must follow certain recommendations:

  1. Maintain good oral hygiene. It is especially necessary to monitor the child’s performance of all procedures. It is important to brush your teeth twice a day, use dental floss and mouthwash.
  2. Visit the dentist periodically - at least twice a year. If unpleasant symptoms occur, a visit to the doctor should be made immediately.
  3. Strengthen the gums and roots of the teeth by rinsing with herbal infusions and eating solid plant foods.
  4. Eat rationally and balanced. The body must receive the entire complex of vitamins and minerals around the clock.

No one is immune from problems, but preventative measures will help reduce the likelihood of their occurrence.
