I often hear debates about fluoride toothpastes - can I use them or not? Let's look at this issue in more detail. In our body, photor is contained in tooth enamel and bones about 2.5–3 g. Our daily requirement is 1.5–5 mg. A deficiency of this important element increases the risk of caries formation. Many people hear the word fluoride and say it's poison! And they're right: fluoride is a toxic gas. But few people know that fluorine is used in food and hygiene products not in its pure form, but in the form of salts (sodium or calcium fluorides).
Beneficial properties of fluorine: - together with calcium and phosphorus, promotes the formation and strengthening of bone tissue and tooth enamel; - stimulates nail and hair growth; — strengthens the immune system — removes heavy metal salts from the body; - Helps absorb iron.
Toothpastes with fluoride salts help solve many dental problems.
Prevention of caries. Fluoride, entering the enamel structure, treats caries at the spot stage and helps to avoid the formation of new carious lesions.
Protection against demineralization. The combination of fluorides with hydroxyapatite (the main structural element of tooth enamel) forms fluorapatite, which is more resistant to acids produced by pathogenic microorganisms. Thanks to this, the processes of enamel demineralization stop. Moreover, fluorides accelerate the process of reminarilation (enrichment of enamel with calcium and phosphorus), which significantly reduces the risk of developing caries.
Protection against lactic acid. Fluoride prevents the production of lactic acid, which means it significantly reduces the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and additionally protects the enamel.
Parodontax toothpaste. Which is better, WITH FLUORIDE or WITHOUT?
Good day to everyone who reads my reviews.
I decided to dedicate this review to Parodontax paste , and the main thing is to figure out which paste is better, with or without fluoride.
But first I will tell you my story.
Two years ago, some dark spots began to appear on my upper teeth. At first they were insignificant, then they began to increase little by little. I decided that my teeth just needed to be whitened and was in no hurry to go to the dentist. And in vain. I bought whitening strips, used several, found that there was no effect, and the spots continued to grow. Then I thought about it and started reading information on the Internet. I read about root caries and its consequences, was horrified and immediately ran to the dentist. My worst fears about tooth decay came true. But it was caries at the initial stage, plus the enamel of my teeth was thinned. On top of everything else, for some reason my gums became loose and bled a little. The dentist prescribed me treatment for my gums, sanded the front surface of my teeth and removed these stains as much as possible. And she strongly recommended Parodontax paste with fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel, remineralize it, and prevent gums from crawling.
Now let's try to figure it out.
Fluorine is a chemical element, a gas. In nature, it occurs in the form of compounds with various substances. These compounds are called fluorides. There is a myth that fluoride in toothpaste is dangerous. This myth is based on rumors that fluoride is dangerous to humans even in small concentrations. Such myths work due to the fact that people want to see some kind of mystery in ordinary things and at the same time often judge areas where it is impossible to understand without special knowledge.
I read that at the beginning of the twentieth century, scientists clinically proved that fluoride prevents the occurrence of caries, as well as the proliferation of harmful bacteria in the oral cavity. Therefore, since one thousand nine hundred and forties, in many countries, municipal programs for additional fluoridation of tap water began to develop in order to prevent caries in the population. And then rumors spread about the dangers of fluoride.
It is worth recognizing the fact that in high concentrations, fluorine is really dangerous, like any other trace element in overdoses. But all this does not mean that we need to avoid any ingestion of fluoride into the body, since then we would have to give up green and black tea, apples and other natural products rich in fluoride and beneficial to humans. The main thing is to understand: for fluoride to harm our body, we need to work more than ten to fifteen years in the production of fluorides in violation of safety regulations. It is impossible to obtain a significant dose of fluoride in household doses from food or water, but due to a lack of fluoride, health problems can quite realistically arise.
Indeed, there is such a disease as flurosis, which occurs from an excess of fluoride. There are two varieties of it. Endemic fluorosis almost always develops in the womb or in early childhood before teething. Manifestations of endonemic fluorosis are immediately noticeable - these are uneven white spots on the teeth, which gradually darken and become similar to caries. And the second type of fluorosis is professional systemic fluorosis. It can only occur in workers involved in the production of fluoride when working conditions are violated. It manifests itself in damage to bones and internal organs. But the appearance of the teeth does not change.
Fluorides are simply necessary for teeth: they inhibit the activity of harmful bacteria and prevent their waste products from corroding tooth enamel. Hence the conclusion that fluoride in toothpaste prevents tooth decay. Damaged areas of the tooth are remineralized due to the action of fluorides, therefore, from fluoride, early caries “heals before our eyes.” And we must understand that it is not the fluoride content that is harmful, but its quantity.
Only you can decide which toothpaste to buy, with or without fluoride. You can consult your dentist. I have made my choice. For 2 years in a row I have been buying Parodontax paste with fluoride, sometimes taking a break for something else so as not to become addictive. But then I return to this pasta again. Because it cleans teeth well, solves not one problem, but three at once: protecting teeth from caries, reducing bleeding gums and remineralizing teeth. And now the manufacturer has released it with a new taste, which is now very pleasant and unobtrusive compared to what it was before.
What are the dangers of fluoride deficiency and excess?
Low fluoride content weakens tooth enamel, making it more susceptible to tooth decay. But excess fluoride is more dangerous than its deficiency. The teeth and bones are the first to suffer - they become fragile. Metabolic disorders, blood clotting and other serious health problems can also be observed.
So, at the moment, science has not proven the harm of fluoride-containing toothpastes, but there are many facts indicating their benefits. Which toothpaste should you choose for quality dental care? Your dentist will recommend the best option based on the current clinical situation, your complaints and wishes.

Parodontax fluoride toothpaste
Let's not indulge ourselves with illusions, but read “in black and white” what honestly and directly tells us. But it does not prevent or cure.
And even on the packaging it is indicated that ONE of the reasons for bleeding gums may be an excessive accumulation of bacteria, and it is precisely this one reason that this paste is designed to combat.
This is all to say that bleeding gums are not such a harmless symptom, the cause of which must be determined by a specialist and prescribed competent treatment, and it probably cannot be cured with paste alone (for example, problems with blood vessels or an infectious disease)
I never had problems with gums, never before my 2nd pregnancy (these are temporary problems caused by changes in metabolism and hormonal changes, threatening to become chronic!), but suddenly I had to face trouble for several months. There was no inflammation, redness, or pain, just not a catastrophic, but very significant and frightening amount of blood during cleaning; of course, I hurried as best I could to maintain the health of my gums.
I’ve had to deal with this particular Paradontax before (if the manufacturer had a paste for another purpose) - I took it out of curiosity a long time ago. Before this, the packaging showed colorfully and schematically with the help of emoticons that at first the taste of the paste was very unusual, but after about a week the patient got used to it and even began to enjoy it.
Liars! the taste is hellish rubbish at first, and then a disgusting abomination, neither my husband nor I could love this soda (more on that later). During pregnancy, for some time with mild toxicosis, I had to brush my teeth with great care and hold my breath so as not to induce vomiting, but even after this nauseating period I strengthened my gums “with tears in my eyes.”
(and where to go, I endured because pleasant pastes like Forest Balm turned out to be completely useless and I don’t know any others)
I am certainly pleased with the presence of active natural ingredients:
Echinacea is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It increases the body's resistance, so it will help get rid of pathogenic flora in the oral cavity. Myrrh is protective. The high gum content in this plant helps strengthen gums and eliminate bleeding. Chamomile is a soothing, anti-inflammatory and tonic, helps reduce tooth sensitivity, relieves and relieves inflammation, and promotes healing of oral mucosal tissue. Rataniya – tonic. The rhizomes of this plant have astringent properties, so the gums become firmer and more elastic. Mint is deodorizing and anti-inflammatory. Sage – cleansing and strengthening.
everything seems to be wonderful, very useful and effective, but it’s absolutely obvious that the lion’s share of the paste is the main ingredient indicated at the very beginning, Sodium bicarbonate - nothing more than the familiar ordinary soda! the manufacturer beautifully called it mineral salt))) well, marketing is the engine of progress
have you tried brushing your teeth with soda? - this is very unpleasant!!! just as unpleasant as Paradontax, and soda is also widely known as a strong antiseptic and a cleaner even for neglected teeth in the “old-fashioned way”, so what does it “treat”?
By the way, it’s also no secret that soda is harmful to teeth, but I’m not a chemist or a doctor, I won’t make hasty judgments, perhaps the risk to enamel is mitigated by the presence of fluoride; soda costs a penny, and a paste based on it is not cheap, the most modest price in winter 2015 /2016 which I met - a little more than 150 rubles for a small tube of 75 ml, the color of the paste is also very unusual, dirty red, as if there was already blood there. The consistency seems to be grainy, like wet soda or fine salt, surprisingly considering its roughness and “rubbishness” the paste It doesn’t clean well, every now and then I had to go over again and again over places that were clogged for a minute and also bleeding. Nevertheless, the paste did its job, the bleeding was reduced, the gums became stronger, but the effect was temporary, after stopping use the problem quickly returned (until it went away on its own by oneself)
Conclusion: I still recommend the paste, because it does its job (in my case) and I don’t know a worthy replacement. I think it’s fair to deduct points for taste and I don’t appreciate it justifiably high
