Varicose veins of the perineum and labia - modern treatment

Perineal varicose veins are varicose veins in the perineal area (varicose veins of the labia, varicose veins of the perineum), developing due to obstruction of venous outflow. Varicose veins of the labia are a manifestation of impaired outflow through the system of internal iliac veins due to their blockage or compression. The mere presence of signs of varicose veins of the labia does not pose a threat to the patient’s life, but is aesthetically unacceptable for young women, complicates sexual life and may indicate serious circulatory disorders in the pelvis.

Predisposing factors in the development of genital varicose veins in women

Varicose veins on the labia have a genetic predisposition - the mechanism of the disease is similar to varicose veins of the lower extremities. The basis is dysfunction of the valves of the gonadal veins. Physical activity, frequent pregnancies, engorgement of the genital organs during prolonged sexual intercourse contribute to vascular stretching with the development of venous stagnation. The appearance of varicose veins of the labia during pregnancy usually occurs in the second trimester and reaches a maximum closer to childbirth. After childbirth, these varicose veins, which developed during pregnancy on the labia, most often regress, but sometimes remain for life due to changes in the structure of the vascular walls.

Arteriovenous compression

  • Aorto-mesenteric compression of the left renal vein

Aorto-mesenteric compression of the left renal vein (aorto-mesenteric “tweezers”, nutcracker syndrome, mesoaortic compression syndrome of the left renal vein) is a situation in which the left renal vein is compressed between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. This leads to disturbances in the outflow of blood in the left renal vein, expansion and formation of “reverse” blood flow through the left gonadal vein with the formation of symptoms of varicose veins of the female genital organs.

  • May-Turner syndrome

May-Turner syndrome is a situation in which the left common iliac vein is compressed by the right common iliac artery, leading to expansion of the common iliac vein below the site of compression and overflow of the pelvic vessels with venous blood. We also often observe the development of varicose veins - expansion of the left lower limb, the formation of persistent swelling of the soft tissues of the left lower limb and even trophic disorders (pigmentation). Most often, with May-Turner syndrome, varicose veins on the outer labia develop during pregnancy and remain forever after pregnancy (photo).

  • Postthrombotic disease

Quite often one can observe the development of pelvic varicose veins in patients who have previously suffered deep vein thrombosis (especially proximal thrombosis) when there is a residual narrowing of the lumen or complete occlusion of the lumen of the common iliac vein. In this case, the outflow of blood from the pelvic organs is sharply hampered and, as a consequence, the expansion of the lumen of blood vessels and the development of pelvic varicose veins.

  • Venous dysplasia

This is a malformation of the superficial or deep veins that occurs in the early phases of the formation of the vascular system of the embryo in the period from 4 to 8 weeks of intrauterine development. Venous dysplasia leads to the appearance of varicose veins of the minor lips. The diagnosis of dysplasia can be established provided that other causes of dilation of the genital vessels are excluded. Dysplasias look like dense vascular spots that are difficult to empty when squeezed. They resemble tumor-like formations more than dilated varicose veins.

Features of the appearance of scars on the lip

Rough scar tissue can cause inconvenience and become not an imaginary problem, but a real one. The skin of human lips is very thin and sensitive. It is extremely easy to cause damage, let’s consider a number of possible causes of injury and scarring:

  1. Consequences of surgical sutures . In case of damage to the deep layers of the skin of the lips, it is impossible to do without suturing the edges of the wound. Also, this procedure cannot be avoided when removing tumors. Despite the professionalism of specialists, the damaged area of the lips will differ in color and texture, and serious scars may appear.
  2. Herpes . Unfortunately, 9 out of 10 people living on the planet are susceptible to this virus. Herpes does not disappear without a trace and becomes more active as soon as immunity decreases. On the skin, herpes appears in the form of rashes similar to pimples. They usually go away within a week, but if an infection occurs, the process may take longer. In place of the blisters, scars form that do not diminish for a long time.
  3. Scars due to piercings . For various reasons (allergy, failure to maintain sterility), the wound after a puncture with a needle can become inflamed. In this case, a noticeable scar will remain. But even if the procedure is successful, in most cases there is still an atrophic scar (a small depression at the piercing site). Such a scar is a natural reaction of the body to trauma.
  4. An animal bite on the thin surface of the lips. Yes, this happens quite rarely, but a kitten, having played too much, can accidentally injure its owner. Even very calm animals can do this. Along with the saliva of your pet, bacteria penetrate into the wound, which leads to complications. Lacerations after dog bites are also possible; in this case, stitches are required.
  5. Mechanical effect on the delicate skin of the lips. Even a minor injury that leaves a small bruise or wound can later develop into a pronounced scar.
  6. Tattoo . Today, the procedure remains fashionable and popular among women. This method of applying permanent makeup allows you to look good at any time of the day. The method involves introducing pigment under the skin in certain areas. Unfortunately, the market for cosmetic procedures is not well controlled. Low qualifications of tattoo artists lead to sad consequences for patients - too deep penetration of the needle or non-compliance with the procedure technology increases the chance of small scars appearing on the lips.
  7. Introduction of fillers . Beauty injections often lead to deformations of the face, especially the lips. They form fibrous tissue - subcutaneous scars, which can greatly distort the appearance of girls.
  8. Genetic diseases . Cleft palate or cleft lip (congenital or acquired cleft palate) - surgical interventions are required, scars are inevitable.

Classification of scars

In order to properly and successfully get rid of marks on the lips, it is important to understand what type of scar it is:

  • Normotrophic - differs from the natural skin tone in a lighter color. Perfectly amenable to proper treatment and camouflage. The sensitivity of the dermis is preserved.
  • Atrophic - heterogeneous and deepened when compared with a healthy area. Nerve endings and sensitivity are absent.
  • Hypertrophic - a convex scar that rises above the skin level. Painted in a rich red color. The scar appears due to infection of a fresh wound and increased collagen production.
  • Keloid - similar to hypertrophic, but unlike it, it grows beyond the wound, significantly exceeding its size.

Symptoms and complaints of perineal varicose veins

In the classic version, there is a triad of symptoms:

  • Pelvic pain.
  • Varicose veins of the labia and perineum.
  • Dysmenorrhea is a cyclical process, when during menstruation severe pain in the lower abdomen, heavy menstrual bleeding, and menstrual irregularities may appear.
  • With a long course of the disease, the development of dyspareunia is possible - painful sensations in the lower abdomen that occur during or after sexual intercourse. A peculiarity of this symptom is the persistence of pain for at least 30 minutes and up to a day after sexual intercourse.

My life was divided into before and after with bloodless permanent lip tattoo

Spoiler: this is what I looked like 2 hours after the procedure.
The first time I got a tattoo was 10 years ago, when I saw that the contour was disappearing and white bald spots were appearing, and in general the lips were becoming paler and more expressionless - and I got a lip tattoo!) It was of course something((It was painful, and with my low pain threshold it was doubly so, I felt the taste of blood and pigment at the same time, I was sick, my lips after the procedure were swollen and hurt wildly for 3 days, everything became crusty and healed for 10 days. But in any case, it was worth it , and 5 years later I repeated it again!)

This is what my lips look like before the procedure

And three weeks ago I repeated this procedure again, because I realized that the contour had disappeared again, asymmetry had appeared and white dots from hyaluronic acid injections were visible, and I really wanted to fix all this.

And this is what the lips look like immediately after the procedure

Based on a recommendation, I found a specialist with extensive experience and a bunch of awards, looked at her work on Instagram and decided to make an appointment with her, although I was very worried that it would be painful and again 10 days of torment, but after the visit I did not believe that this could happen!

This is what the lips look like after the procedure, 3 weeks later

Literally, my idea of tattooing has turned 180* 10 years later!

And now I’ll tell you why!)

1) It doesn’t hurt because the master used two freezes!

The first is applied under the film for 10 minutes.

This one, which is under the film for 10 minutes

The second is in the process, as soon as you start to feel discomfort. The master applies it, blots it with a cotton pad and continues to work!

This one was used in the process

2) Absolutely no blood! This was a major shock for me, and I didn’t believe it, but the master explained that there are now new needles and new technologies, in which there is no blood, or even ichor. The puncture depth with this needle is 0.3-0.5 mm, and previously 1-2 mm and deeper.

Naturally the needles are disposable

Needle in working order with pigment

3) Selecting and mixing colors. I explained that I didn’t want to radically change the shade of my lips, to make them like my own, but just a little richer!

Mixed 3 shades according to the formula 2:5:5

/from left to right/ drops

Here are the colors already mixed

4) The procedure lasted a total of 2 hours (with discussion, drawing and work)

Immediately after the procedure, I looked sleepy, as I was dozing during the process!)

5) After the procedure, I looked very decent, without any torn or swollen lips, although I was ready for exactly this!

2 hours after the makeup procedure

6) 2 hours later I was at the event and looked simply wonderful, no one believed that I had gotten a tattoo! There is nothing on the lips other than Vaseline with thyme, since for a week you cannot use products with at least any pigment, so as not to affect the color change!

Vaseline for children with streaks (sold in a pharmacy for 60 ₽)

7) It was also a discovery for me that I don’t need to use special wound-healing ointments and medicinal creams! Just Vaseline or a clear lip balm with natural ingredients (like this one) is enough.

This is my favorite, I love it

8) Another point is that there was NO crust! I'm shocked, to be honest! There were some small peels, but they were practically invisible under the balm!

9) During the healing process during the week, sometimes /usually before going to bed/, I felt a slight sensation that my lips were itching, but I was warned about this, and I immediately applied Vaseline and this feeling went away.

10) After 10 days, I started using lipsticks and glosses with such pleasure, since I really love painting my lips and it became a real mini holiday for me!

In general, to say that I am delighted is to say nothing!) I recommend it 100%, especially to those who, like me, are hesitant to do it because of the pain!

In a week I’m going for a correction, /without any fear/ to consolidate the effect!) Well, and at the same time admire the beautiful view of Moscow from the office.

You can take beautiful photos (this one was taken immediately after the procedure)

Of the minuses: you can’t kiss and use lipsticks, and if you don’t take acyclovir (and others like them), you may get a cold on your lips!

Contraindications: cancer, pregnancy, allergy to the drug /it is better to consult a doctor and a specialist before the procedure/

Price: 10,000₽

Correction: 5,000₽ /correction required/

Rating: 10/10

I’m very pleased!) I’ll repeat it again in 5 (or sooner) years!)

Who currently has tattoos on their lips or other areas? Tell us your opinion about this procedure: are you satisfied/dissatisfied? If you are unhappy, then why? I will be glad to hear from those who have done powder spraying of eyebrows, since I really want to update mine!) In general, I will be glad to see your honest opinion in the comments)

Disease prognosis

Varicose veins of the uterus and perineum are not a life-threatening disease. But it is important to note that the quality of life of patients is significantly reduced. In addition to aesthetic discomfort, large perineal phleboectasis can cause painful symptoms during menstruation and complicate sexual life. Sometimes varicose veins become inflamed, causing a lot of physical suffering to patients. You should not count on the therapeutic effect of ointments and tablets - such therapy is not effective, but only eliminating the causes of varicose veins and the venous nodes themselves using sclerotherapy or miniphlebectomy allows one to achieve excellent therapeutic and aesthetic results in all patients. At the Innovative Vascular Center, complete treatment of this disease is possible. We successfully perform endovascular correction of deep vein pathology, eliminate varicose veins of the small pelvis and venous vessels on the genitals.

How to remove a scar on the upper and lower lip

The healing time of the scar depends on the depth and size of the lesion, the presence or absence of inflammation and the state of the immune system. The scarring process is quite long, it can take up to 12 months. In difficult cases, the patient is recommended to resort to the following procedures:

  • laser microdermabrasion is a resurfacing procedure that is carried out in several stages. The number of sessions depends on the area of the lesion;
  • fractional photothermolysis - stimulation of fibroblasts (builder cells) with a carbon dioxide laser, which stimulates the production of healthy collagen. A course of 2–10 visits is required;
  • coagulation - the scar is treated with a special laser to remove the excess number of small vessels. As a result, damaged skin is practically no different in color from healthy skin. The duration of the course is selected individually;
  • drug injections - glucocorticoids (hormones) are often used to eliminate keloid and hypertrophic scars; they inhibit excess collagen. Due to this, the skin texture is evened out;
  • Permanent makeup is not a method of treatment, but of disguising small scars. It is not suitable for everyone and is only relevant for minor injuries and cuts of the lips.

Please note that these procedures are not suitable for everyone. In particular, getting rid of scars using laser and hormones has a number of contraindications:

  • diabetes;
  • lactation period;
  • pregnancy;
  • skin diseases;
  • hormonal abnormalities;
  • thyroid diseases.

In addition, you will have to stop taking a number of medications, staying in the sun, visiting a sauna or steam bath, and many other usual things.

Traditional methods for treating a scar on the lip

Everyone can find handy products for home use. But traditional medicine recipes are not so effective due to their properties. They can only stimulate blood flow and relieve inflammation in the scar area. They can help with this:

  • parsley juice;
  • cocoa bean butter;
  • honey;
  • cinnamon.

You can make lotions from aloe leaves or eucalyptus juice, gruel from finely chopped onions or fresh celery. This will nourish the thin skin of your lips, but unfortunately, it will not prevent scar formation. The effect of such actions is insignificant and hardly noticeable.

In order not to resort to surgical intervention and not to use ineffective folk methods, experts recommend the anti-scar gel Fermenkol for the correction of scars.

A unique complex eliminates both fresh and old scars:

  • returns the skin to its original appearance;
  • increases the smoothness and elasticity of the skin;
  • saves money and does not require expensive procedures;
  • safe for children and pregnant women;
  • does not contain hormonal components in its composition;
  • acts on the problem locally, without affecting healthy tissue.
